The Story In Plain Text
Once upon a time, in a place long lost in the past. There was a small village on top of a snow covered mountain that towered over the world like a pillar. The village had remained isolated for thousands of years, sustaining itself only on a few crops that grew in the harsh conditions. The quaint village had a central hearth that brought light, heat and comfort to the entire village. A small wooden tower with a stone roof and a window that overlooked the world below. Lizbeth a short young girl with hair that looked like a flame, and hazel eyes resembling fertile soil in the spring. Nobody knows where she came from, 7 years ago Lizbeth just appeared in the abandoned tower and had no memory of her origin. The townsfolk took care of her and made her become the town's cook, but she preferred sword fighting. She always helped hunt and defend the town from the snow beasts in her spare time.
On Lizbeth's 15th birthday, a strange event occurred. A strange person in a star white cloak had climbed the mountain and came to the town. They walked into the town square and unveiled a hidden crypt that had been beneath the town ever since its creation. The stranger descended unnoticed by the townsfolk into the crypt. However, Lizbeth saw the stranger descended and thought to herself “should I go and see what they are here for or, should I play it safe”. She thought “Well what do I have to lose” then grabbed her midnight black sword and her cloak and quickly followed the stranger down into the crypt.
As she entered the crypt the entrance sealed, there was no going back now. She walked into a spacious room full of tiles, she saw that some of these tiles were white and formed a path through the other tiles. She ran over these tiles and missteped and placed her foot on black tile. Instantly the room became an alarming red color. All the tiles fell below her, but she jumped and just barely grabbed the bottom of the exit. She pulled herself up shaken from the experience. The next room was a gauntlet of swinging blades. Lizbeth heard a faint music in the background and realized that the blades were moving in rhythm with the music. She began to go through the gauntlet, dancing around the blades with perfect timing and made it safely across the room. The next room was a long narrow hall. Lizbeth looked down the hall and said “Nope, I’m not doing this, I’m out” and as she tried to turn back, the door locked behind her and the walls began closing in on her. She panicked and ran as fast as she could to the other side, but as she was about to make it to safety the walls quickly closed in on her crushing her foot in between. She screamed in agony from the pain. The bone chilling scream catching the attention of the stranger who was in the room, the stranger walked over to the now unconscious Lizbeth. The stranger picked her up and carried Lizbeth to the center of the room. Then the stranger placed a small vial of sky blue fluid next to her and walked on into the next room.
When Lizbeth awoke she felt the terrible pain once again, but noticed the vial which read “Deus Ex Machina plot progressor #182”. She decided to take a risk and drank the fluid. Rapidly her foot began to heal along with her damaged boot. Since she had read the label she did not question what just happened.
She walked into the next room and saw a horrifying snake guarding two girls her age locked in cages. The stranger was nowhere to be found. The snake lunged at her with the speed of a falcon, she quickly dodged hitting her head on the wall. The snake slithered backing her into a corner while the people in the cages screamed. Suddenly the stranger in the cloak stabbed the snake with a sword. Together the stranger and Lizbeth fought the snake landing strike after strike and slaying the beast.
The stranger removed their cloak revealing their body. Strangely the stranger girl looked just like Lizbeth as if they were twins. The girls in the cages also looked just like Lizbeth. They were released and the four gather in the center of the room and knew that they were the same. They exited the crypt together through a stair at the end of the room. Even though they did not know their home or their origin. They knew that together they could forge their own path and discover their mysteries together.
